2.  Edith Schaeffer, L'Abri.  Wheaton: Tyndale House Publishers, 1969. 124, 125.

5.  It would have been impossible for me to try and capture Edith's style of writing in this book, and I have not tried.  Each writer's style, just as each Christian's prayer life, will be intensely personal.  I do encourage you to read Edith's books for yourself, and I hope this book will inspire you to do so.

6.  He often said that True Spirituality was the most important book he ever wrote and the only one he ever reread to keep in touch with the reality of what he was doing.  Francis A. Schaeffer, True Spirituality in The Complete Works of Francis A. Schaeffer: A Christian Worldview, "A Christian View of Spirituality" (Westchester: Crossway Books, 1982), Volume Three, 195-378.  See also the important books, The Church Before The Watching World and The Mark Of The Christian in The Complete Works, "A Christian View of the Church", Volume Four, 113-205.

7.  Dr. Schaeffer died of cancer in Rochester, Minnesota, in 1984.  Mrs. Schaeffer continued to work there until moving back to Switzerland, now making her home near Debby and Udo.

Chapter 9.  Fighting the Good Fight

1.  The Tapestry, p. 575.  His talk at the Congress was published as Two Contents, Two Realities.  Dr. Schaeffer was prophetic.  Ten years before he wrote The Great Evangelical Disaster he warned: "Almost certainly if we have a latitudinarianism in religious cooperation, the next generation will have a latitudinarianism in doctrine, and especially a weakness toward the Bible.  Two Contents, Two Realities in The Complete Works, Volume Three, Book Four, p. 411.

2.  In this book I have drawn a distinction between Bible-believing Christians and liberal theologians or "liberal Christians."  I am reminded of what a former missionary to Korea, Dick Lash, said to me once after I said, "I am a Bible-believing Christian."  He replied, "Can there be any other kind?"
